By meeting reality with art, we routinely surpass clients' expectations. Clients ask for exam rooms, apartments and classrooms, and we give them spaces where healing, living and learning can most readily take place.
Roberta Washington began planning her architectural career when, as an eighth-grader, she interviewed an architect for a school project.
Before founding her architectural firm in 1983, Ms. Washington spent 12 years working for firms specializing in health care and institutional facilities design in New York.
From 1977 to 1981, Ms. Washington worked in Mozambique as head of a provincial design office where she developed a design prototype for district mother-child health centers. She also designed several secondary schools and teachers' colleges there.
Her current practice includes both restoration and new construction projects. Throughout her career, she has maintained a special interest in hospital and health care facility design. She also oversees a wide range of institutional and other projects developed in her office.
